WWMIN volunteers and Gianna House staff celebrate the reopening of the baby store on March 16, 2024. Before and after pictures follow.
Last year, four Sterling Heights parishes, Our Lady of Czestochowa, Ss. Cyril & Methodius, St. Jane Frances de Chantal and St. Rene Goupil, formed a Walking with Moms in Need (WWMIN) ministry to help women and families in challenging pregnancy and parenting situations.
Their first task was to identify the pregnancy resources available to women and families in need in our local area. The group created an up-to-date guide for parishioners, ministers, and service organizations. The guide contains contact information that helps folks know where to find various kinds of assistance.
Efforts are also underway to strengthen the support networks in the parishes for moms, families, and pregnant women in need
In December 2023, WWMIN members learned that Gianna House needed volunteers to sort through several hundred boxes, bags, and mounds of clean baby, child, maternity, and women’s items salvaged from the water damage the building sustained in 2022.
The Family of the Good Shepherd WWMIN volunteers tackled the project with gusto. A total of 20 volunteers donated their time and energy building storage shelves, sorting and folding baby clothing, cleaning, fixing, and organizing. Their goal to create a newly renovated baby store in the Gianna House basement was completed on
March 16, 2024,
Gianna House is a residential home in Eastpointe that provides support to young, pregnant women and mothers who are at-risk or who lack safe housing. Through its education, counseling, and life skills programs, Gianna House helps women transition to independence.
